The wave

The Dana Point Harbor jetty filters the swell, so what reaches the lineup at Doheny breaks softly into slow, rolling shoulders over a sandy, cobblestone bottom. When to go

Summer south swells are best, and mornings are cleanest before the wind. Doheny stays mellow even when other spots get bigger, which makes it a reliable fallback through the cooler months too. Water quality can dip after rain, so give it a day or two after a storm.
