Thalia Surf Presents: The Wax Ball Vol. 4 Featuring Spindrift & VUM

  |

Thalia Surf Shop, Raen, Brixton, and Deus present The Wax Ball Vol. 4 this Thursday, February 9th at The Marine Room Tavern, Laguna Beach CA. Featuring Spindrift & VUM! Spindrift is a psychedelic rock band created by singer-songwriter-composer-producer-actor Kirpatrick Thomas. Founded in 1992, the band originated in Newark, Delaware along with such other local bands of the period including Jake and the Stiffs, The Verge, Boy Sets Fire, Zen Guerilla and Smashing Orange. Heavily influenced by The Doors, My Bloody Valentine, Hawkwind, Bruce Haack, and Chrome, Spindrift’s early stages were experimental and differed greatly from their present sound... They now take after legends more like Ennio Morricone [who scored Clint Eastwood films like The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and Fistful of Dollars]. A more extensive bio info can be found via their website. Check out the video below which is the opening titles for the movie Space Vixens, and a music video for Spindrift.
Jennifer Pearl (ex-Lion Fever, Lost Kids) and Christopher Badger (founding member of Grand Elegance) are VUM. Partners in crime, and co-conspirators for this new throbbing noir heartbeat. The two have gone off the road treading a deceptively minimalist path in comparison to the bombastic rock of their other outfits , conjuring an alternate reality where SUICIDE is being led by LINK WRAY in some weird Middle Eastern harem, where a brooding female has appeared, grabbed the mic from the karaoke machine, and hijacked the whole evening into a hypnotizing introversion, her hands beckoning the hashished clientele. See you all this Thursday! About The Wax Ball: The Wax Ball is a monthly music showcase hosted by Thalia Surf Shop at The Marine Room, Laguna’s oldest bar [1930s] which happens to be owned by the towns mayor. Laguna is world renowned for its artists and creativity, but the town is void of any good music. 80s night and reggae parties dominate the scene and the local surf community has been forced to head out of town for good surf rock, punk, blues, and garage. The Wax Ball, presented by Thalia Surf, Raen Optics, Brixton Mfg, and Deus Ex Machina, will fill this void, bringing something to Laguna Beach that hasn’t been here since the 60's, music worth seeing, supporting, and following. The Wax Ball happens once a month, on the second Thursday, and is bringing a refreshing and eager crowd to The Marine Room. There is literally nothing else happening in terms of music anywhere in or surrounding Laguna and we feel that Thalia Surf and our friends are the ones who will do it the best.
