Dutch Step-Up Wooden Handplane

Bodysurfing strips everything back to the swimmer and the swell. A handplane is the only equipment, and it changes the whole conversation with the wave.

Ryan Kloostra makes Dutch handplanes by hand in San Clemente. The Step-Up is the pulled-in model, a pointed nose and a single concave bottom built to hold a line in steeper, more critical surf. Adjustable hand strap, natural wood finish.
