Why Rent From Thalia Surf
We are one block from Thalia Street Beach, so you can grab a board and walk it straight to the water. The fleet is made up of our own boards, real Thalia Surf Craft soft tops and a Thalia Surfboards longboard, not generic rental foam. Fins, leash, and wax come with every board, so all you do is show up.
The staff grew up surfing these breaks and will match you to the right board and point you to the best spot for the day. We have been renting boards in Laguna Beach since 2001. First time in the water? Pair your rental with a surf lesson and get some coaching too.

How to Choose Your Board
A longer, wider board is more stable and easier to catch waves on, which is why beginners do best on the bigger soft tops. Use this as a starting point, then let the staff dial it in.

Wetsuit Rentals
Southern California water swings a lot through the year, and the right wetsuit is the difference between a fun session and a cold one. We rent full length wetsuits for 15 dollars a day. Ask staff about sizing and availability.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to rent a surfboard in Laguna Beach?
Rentals start at 45 dollars a day for our soft tops and 65 dollars a day for the 9 foot 6 Felix longboard. Every board comes with fins, a leash, and wax. Wetsuits rent separately for 15 dollars a day.
What is included in the rental?
The board, fins, a leash, and wax, all ready to surf. You do not need to buy anything extra. Just add a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a towel, and add a wetsuit if the water is cool.
What size surfboard should I rent as a beginner?
For most adult beginners an 8 or 9 foot soft top is the sweet spot. More length means more stability and more waves caught. Lighter riders and kids do great on the 7 foot. If you are not sure, the staff will size you up in the shop.
Can I rent a wetsuit?
Yes. We rent full length wetsuits for 15 dollars a day. Any time the water is below about 68 degrees, which is most of fall, winter, and spring in Laguna, a wetsuit makes the session a lot more fun. Ask staff about sizing and availability.
Do I need experience to rent a board?
No experience needed. We rent to everyone, from first timers trying it on vacation to visiting surfers who travel light. If it is your first time, think about pairing your rental with a surf lesson so you get some in water coaching too.
What should I bring?
Bring a valid ID, a card for payment, a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a towel. Everything surf related, the board, fins, leash, and wax, comes with the rental.
How long can I keep the rental?
Our boards are day use rentals, picked up in the shop and returned the same day. If you need a board for longer, call the shop at (949) 497-3292 and we will work out a rental period that fits your trip.
Can I rent a longboard?
Yes. The 9 foot 6 Felix is a genuine Thalia Surfboards longboard for 65 dollars a day, not a generic foam board. It is made for cruising and noseriding the friendly wave right in front of the shop. The 9 foot Party soft top is another easy logging option at 45 dollars a day.
Are the boards good for kids?
Yes. The soft top boards are stable, forgiving, and safe on a wipeout, which makes them ideal for kids and beginners. The 7 foot Laguna is a good fit for lighter, younger surfers, and staff can help you pick the right size.
Is it better to rent or buy as a beginner?
Renting first is the smart move. It lets you try different sizes and shapes before you commit to a board. Once you know what suits your body and your surfing, you will have a much clearer idea of what to buy, and we carry plenty of boards when you are ready.
Where do I surf after I pick up my rental?
Thalia Street Beach is one block from the shop and is Laguna Beach's best beginner break, a gentle, long peeling wave with an easy paddle out. Pick up your board, walk it down, and you are surfing within minutes.
Do you offer a discount if I also book a surf lesson?
A rental alongside a lesson is a popular combo. We do not list a set package online, so give the shop a call and we will sort out the best setup for your session.
