Tanner Prairie was born in Costa Mesa, and spent his early days surfing at Blackies, Newport Beach. Tanner first got into shaping in 2008 under the mentorship of Mike Marshall, an early shaper at Harbour Surfboards. Tanner has since become a well known local shaper, and continues to test his designs along the California coast, or wherever his travels take him.
